koa:
That's what I think is so cool about some of the new ukes that I keep seeing on eBay lately. Different woods are being used everyday. Mango, Acadia, Zebrawood, even bamboo!

11. Potential for more 'ukuleles to be built out of a given chunk of our dwindling supply of Koa, Honduras mahogany, Madagascar ebony......

12. Happy Children. Everytime I've played with young children around it creates a smile on their faces, laughter in their voices and a twinkle in their eyes. They may not be impressed with my playing, but are at least happy! Makes me feel happy. Something about the sound & size that attracts them. Let them play your uke. Teach them a chord. They are hooked. The next generation. Gen'Uku.

I've been a children's librarian / storyteller / puppeteer for a long time; I've taken a uke with me all over the place, and I know there's no better way to charm a rowdy group of kids than to start singing with a uke. The sound is whimsical and happy - it catches people's attention through its simplicity. Its coolness comes from its lack of coolness / pretension.

I am guessing I will love it because it is small enough to carry around on vacation and will undoubtedly be a conversation starter and a way to meet new people.

And also, because all the cool kids have one! :-)
